Vasyl Migovka, a Man with New Heart, Goes Home
Updated in a literal and figurative sense, 56-year-old Vasil Migovka, who received a new heart on December 24, 2019, being happy, full of energy, new dreams, and desires returns home to his large family (and there is only a third of it on the photo below).
Vasil is lucky to become the first patient to receive a donor heart after a 15-year hiatus in Ukrainian transplantation practice. The teams of the Heart Institute headed by Borys Todurov and Kovel District Hospital having worked together proved that heart transplantation in Ukraine is the reality again.
“I am extremely grateful to my rescuers:
Borys Todurov, Director of the Heart Institute;
Gavril Kovtun, Head of the Organ and Tissue Transplantation Department
Igor Kuzmich, Head of Intensive Care Unit
Anna Melnyk, Leading Doctor,
and all the staff of the Organ and Tissue Transplantation Department and the Intensive Care Unit of the Heart Institute, Kovel doctors and all people involved,” – Vasyl Migovka said.
