Doctors from the Heart Institute participated in the EuroELSO Congress “EuroELSO 2024”
From April 24 to 27, 2024, doctors from the Heart Institute participated in the European Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (EuroELSO) Congress “EuroELSO 2024” in Krakow, Poland, where they presented our experience in using extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO).
In particular, PhD, Head of the scientific Department of Kidney Transplantation and Hemodialysis, anesthesiologist Stepan Maruniak, made a report analyzing the main features of our ECMO center’s work during war.
The Heart Institute presented poster reports coauthored by Stepan Marunyak, Borys Todurov, Oleg Loskutov, Sofia Chaikovska, and Gavrylo Kovtun. The Heart Institute’s specialists also participated in a training workshop on connecting extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) during resuscitation procedures in children as part of an international team.
Despite constant shelling, blackouts, and limited resources, our doctors demonstrated that ECMO is a feasible mission that can save lives even in such challenging circumstances.
We sincerely hope that at future congresses, we will speak not about the work of our ECMO center during the war, but only about our research and achievements in peaceful and free Ukraine.
We sincerely thank the organizers and the EuroELSO team for the invitation and comprehensive support.
