The first in Ukraine intervention of transcatheter mitral valve replacement has been conducted in the walls of Kyiv Heart Institute
Recently, in the walls of Kyiv Heart Institute, the first in Ukraine intervention of transcatheter mitral valve replacement has been conducted under the direction of professor Borys Todurov.
12 years ago the patient had undergone a surgical mitral valve prosthetics with biological prosthesis. 2 years ago the patient had addressed us with dyspnea. Clinical examination revealed a mitral paravalvular fistula, which had been successfully closed with a special occluder device. Presently, the patient has once again been experiencing the worsening dyspnea. Additional examination has revealed degeneration of the mitral prosthesis leaflets with pronounced mitral insufficiency and a significant dilation of left atrium.
Considering the elevated risks of repeated intervention, a choice towards transcatheter “valve in valve” implantation was made. The intervention was performed with 3D echocardiography assistance by transapical approach, 24,5 MyVal (Meril) valve was implanted and the end result was good. Presently the patient resides under ambulatory monitoring.
