For the First Time in Ukraine, Two Organs Were Transplanted Simultaneously
For the second day in a row, our doctors performed another heart transplant at the Heart Institute.
This case was unique because, for the first time in Ukraine, the transplantation of two organs took place simultaneously. Everything went well.
The patient is Vsevolod, a 52-year-old resident of Kyiv who has been on hemodialysis for the past 16 years because of kidney failure. Unfortunately, the man’s heart could not withstand kidney therapy and comorbidities. The heart failed and partially turned to stone because of calcification. Doctors first transplanted the heart and then the kidney.
Two teams worked yesterday: our doctors led by Prof. Borys Todurov and Vladyslav Zakordonets with colleagues from the Kyiv City Center of Nephrology and Dialysis. Thanks to all for the excellent work.
Team of the Heart Institute: Prof. Borys Todurov, Gavril Kovtun, Andriy Patola, Anton Shpachuk, Mykola Honcharenko, Oleksandr Rudyak, Oleksandr Revenko, Anastasia Tyuleneva, Serhiy Sudakevich, Anna Melnyk.
The blessed memory to a donor who died of a stroke. Honor and gratitude to his family for their difficult decision, which saved the lives of the father of two children and two other people who had a kidney and liver transplant.
Special thanks to Dobrobut Medical Network, which was a “donor hospital”, for quickly informing about a potential donor.
