Official Defense of Dissertation by Postgraduate Student of the Department of Cardiac Surgery, Endovascular and Extracorporeal Technologies
On June 3, 2025, at the Shupyk National University of Healthcare of Ukraine, an official defense of the dissertation was held before a one-time specialized academic council. The dissertation was presented by postgraduate student of the Department of Cardiac Surgery, Endovascular and Extracorporeal Technologies, Anna Shkandala (scientific supervisor — Professor Serhii Furkalo).
The session was chaired by Professor Oleh Loskutov, Head of the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care, with the participation of academic staff and postgraduate students of the Department of Cardiac Surgery, Endovascular and Extracorporeal Technologies, as well as colleagues from the clinical base of the department — the State Non-Profit Enterprise Heart Institute of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
The reviewers were Professor Oleh Zharinov (Department of Functional Diagnostics) and Professor Maryna Dolzhenko (Department of Cardiology). The official opponents were Doctor of Medical Sciences Vitalii Kravchenko and Professor Vira Tseluiko.
The dissertation by Anna Shkandala, “Clinical and Functional Evaluation of the Results of Endovascular and Hybrid Interventions in Patients with Surgical Pathology of the Descending Aorta”, established that the choice of the optimal treatment method for aneurysms and dissections of the descending aorta is an extremely relevant issue. This study is the first of its kind in Ukraine to address, from the cardiologist’s perspective, the choice of treatment method for cardiac surgery patients.
Based on positive reviews from the reviewers and the results of the scientific discussion, the dissertation was recommended for the award of the degree of Doctor of Philosophy.
