On October 12, 2018, at the Kiev Heart Institute, a third time in Ukraine, a patient with a diagnosis of dilated cardiomyopathy was implanted with a mechanical heart developed by the German company Berlin Heart.

“Thanks to the efforts of a team of researchers from the Heart Institute, we conducted the world’s first implantation of the Visone system we have developed and we intend to further demonstrate the benefits of asymptomatic  diaphragm stimulation (ADS) in patients with heart failure and lowered ejection fraction,” President and Chief Executive Officer of VisCardia Inc. Peter Bauer underlined in a report on the XIX national Congress of cardiologists of Ukraine, held in Kyiv on September 26-28.

Thrombectomy on premature newborn weighing less than 1800 g

A newborn from Zhytomyr Oblast, delivered a month ago at the 29th week of pregnancy with a weight of 1,400 g, was taken to the Heart Institute by an Ambulance with a diagnosis of subtotal thrombosis of the right atrium and floating thrombus of the left atrium.

Scientific-Practical Conference “Venous Thromboembolism: New Approaches to Diagnostics and Treatment”

On September 13, 2018, in the Kiev Heart Institute of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the first in the new academic year registered scientific-practical conference “Venous Thromboembolism: New Approaches to Diagnostics and Treatment” took place. The idea of the conference was to discuss current guidelines for the diagnostics and treatment of venous thrombosis, pulmonary emboli, and post-thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension.

Complex, Unique Reconstructive Cardiac Surgery on 13-year-old Boy with Marfan Syndrom

On August 30, 2018, at the Heart Institute, Kyiv, the world-renowned doctor of medical philosophy, professor of cardiac surgery Rimantas Benetis, together with Doctor of Medical Sciences Borys Todurov, conducted a complex surgery (the David procedure) on the reconstruction of the aortic root including correction of the valve’s cusps and replacement of a part of the aorta. The patient was a 13-year-old boy with a rare genetic condition, Marfan syndrome.
