On September 6-7, 2018, the International Conference “Actual Problems of Diagnostics and Treatment of Cerebrovascular Diseases” was held in Odessa, in the multidisciplinary private clinic Medical Hub Odrex, where new technologies of treatment in cardiac surgery and X-ray endovascular surgery were discussed.
On August 30, 2018, at the Heart Institute, Kyiv, the world-renowned doctor of medical philosophy, professor of cardiac surgery Rimantas Benetis, together with Doctor of Medical Sciences Borys Todurov, conducted a complex surgery (the David procedure) on the reconstruction of the aortic root including correction of the valve’s cusps and replacement of a part of the aorta. The patient was a 13-year-old boy with a rare genetic condition, Marfan syndrome.
Masha Abu Rumaila is four and a half years old. She was born in Makeyevka, Donetsk region, but now lives in Palestine. At birth, she was diagnosed with a critical congenital heart disease, a functionally single ventricle. The first two heart surgeries were made by the cardiac surgeon Igor Mokrik in Donetsk in 2014. The third, final and most complicated Fontan procedure, was successfully conducted by Igor Mokrik at the Heart Institute, Kyiv, on August 8, 2018.

The patient is a 62-year old man with a diagnosis – isolated severe mitral insufficiency. In the presence of concomitant pathology, an open operation was contraindicated. At the Heart Institute, the patient had an endovascular prosthetics of the mitral valve.
Recently, at the Heart Institute, a transfemoral (implantation) implantation of the last-generation prosthesis of the aortic valve was conducted on an 84-year-old woman having been diagnosed with critical aortic stenosis with apparent calcification of the openings of the aortic valve.
The team of the Heart Institute led by Director of the Heart Institute Borys Todurov, once again operated in Georgia, this time in Tbilisi. Three Ozaki procedures were performed.
On July 6, 2018, two unique people with transplanted hearts – Ukrainian Eduard Sokolov and Frenchman Paul Baudry – met at the Heart Institute of the Heart. Edward’s heart was transplanted by Borys Todurov exactly 15 years ago – in July 2003. Paul received a new heart in 2009 at the Hopital de la Pitié clinic thanks to Dr. Aubert.
On July 5, 2018, a surgery of aortic valve replacement was conducted on a 45-year-old woman by Professor Borys Todurov at the Heart Institute. At the age of 16 the patient was diagnosed with an infective endocarditis of the aortic valve and in 1989 she was successfully operated. At that time a ball prosthesis of the aortic valve was implanted which successfully worked for 29 years. The surgery was completed successfully.
