Two Heart Transplants at the Heart Institute with Only a 5-Hour Interval
On February 10, 2024, at the Heart Institute, two heart transplants were performed with just a 5-hour interval. Our specialists saved the lives of two young men, aged 23 and 30.
Stepan, a 30-year-old from Lviv, had arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy and had been waiting for a heart transplant for 5 years. Another patient, Roman, a 23-year-old from the Lugansk region, had been waiting for a new heart for almost a year. He served in the Armed Forces of Ukraine and sustained severe injuries during combat. He survived and made it back to his position. During his service, Roman contracted a virus that led to complications in his heart, resulting in dilated cardiomyopathy, necessitating a heart transplant.
We express our gratitude to the donors and their families for giving others a chance at life.
Special thanks to our colleagues at the Olexandrivska Hospital.
