Conference “Current Issues in Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery”
On September 18, 2025, the Heart Institute of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine hosted the 10th Annual Scientific and Educational Conference “Current Issues in Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery.” The event was organized with the participation of the Departments of Functional Diagnostics and Cardiac Surgery, as well as the Departments of X‑ray Endovascular and Extracorporeal Technologies of the Shupyk National University of Health of Ukraine.
The purpose of the forum was to familiarize physicians of various specialties with innovations in cardiac surgery and interventional cardiology, as well as with new methods of functional diagnostics of cardiovascular diseases introduced into clinical practice during the past year. The conference was held in a hybrid format and was registered by the Testing Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine as a CPD event for physicians of different specialties.
The conference was opened by Professor Borys Todurov, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine and General Director of the Heart Institute. In his keynote address, he highlighted the Institute’s achievements in treating pulmonary embolism and pulmonary hypertension, including the first heart‑lung transplant operations performed in Ukraine.
The program covered cutting‑edge aspects of cardiac surgery and interventional cardiology (M. Zahriichuk, K. Boiko, Yu. Hutsuliak, M. Stan). Research findings of postgraduate students from the Shupyk National University of Health of Ukraine (A. Maksakov, M. Hassanzade, A. Melnyk) were presented. Contemporary issues in cardio‑oncology were addressed by invited lecturer Professor V. Tseluiko, Head of the Department of Cardiology, Laboratory and Functional Diagnostics at V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University. A detailed discussion was held on the management of patients with asymptomatic and subclinical atrial fibrillation (O. Zharinov, Ya. Skybchyk).
Overall, the conference reflected the integration of priority directions in cardiac surgery and interventional cardiology into the work of the Heart Institute of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. It demonstrated the Institute’s commitment to maintaining high standards of scientific research and continuous professional development of physicians at the Shupyk National University of Health of Ukraine, whose departments are based at the Heart Institute. Within just one day, the conference recording on YouTube was viewed by more than 2,500 physicians.
