This is how well 14-year-old David looks and feels, whom Prof. Borys Todurov operated on for the first time 5 years ago, performing an extremely complex operation on a child’s heart, and now having operated on the boy for the second time. This was the same heart surgery during which, resulting from the Russian shelling, the light in the operating room went out for a while.
Actual approaches in methods of diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases, in accordance with international standards, allow for saving the lives of thousands of Ukrainians.
The event’s purpose was to increase doctors’ awareness of modern algorithms for the detection and treatment of cardiovascular diseases at all stages of treatment.
Prof. Borys Todurov: “This is how the “Russian world” comes. Today’s rocket attack on Kyiv, November 23, 2022, took several lives of Kyivites and plunged the city into darkness and cold. The Heart Institute has 190 patients and 300 employees. There has been no water for several hours now while we are coping on our own, but it is getting harder every hour.
Despite these difficult times of Russian aggression in Ukraine, we continue to establish and develop cooperation with foreign colleagues, thereby bringing the level of Ukrainian medicine to the world level.
Cryoablation is the modern treatment method for atrial fibrillation – from now on at the Heart Institute.
Despite the continuation of military operations on Ukraine’s territory, the Heart Institute surgeons continue to provide medical care to patients with rhythm disorders according to the highest international standards.
Considering the elevated risks of repeated intervention, a choice towards transcatheter “valve in valve” implantation was made. The intervention was performed with 3D echocardiography assistance by transapical approach, 24,5 MyVal (Meril) valve was implanted and the end result was good.
The Heart Institute continues to share its scientific and clinical achievements with international colleagues.
It was extremely pleasant to note the warm support of Czech colleagues to the entire Ukrainian people during the military aggression by Russia.
In general, the conference reflected the implementation of several priority areas of cardiac surgery and interventional cardiology in the work of the Heart Institute – one of the leading cardiac surgical and cardiology centers in Ukraine.
Despite the difficult conditions of the war, the Heart Institute not only provides all the necessary assistance to our patients but also continues to implement the most modern medical achievements in clinical practice, conducts a scientific analysis of treatment results, and shares our experience with colleagues from around the world.
