The recipient was a 49-year-old man from the Kyiv region with a frightening diagnosis of dilated cardiomyopathy. We thank the entire team of the Heart Institute and colleagues from the Poltava Regional Clinical Hospital named after M. Sklifosovsky.
When stenting does not solve the problem, and even the installed cardioverter-defibrillator no longer helps to establish the correct heart rhythm, and the patient might be doomed – the team of transplant specialists of the Heart Institute gets down to brass tacks.
On this challenging night, two heart transplants were performed simultaneously by two teams of the Heart Institute. Despite the nightly air-raid alarm and shelling, the doctors did everything possible to save the patients.
Little Milana was born prematurely, at 24 weeks of pregnancy, with an extremely low body weight – only 600 grams, and also with a congenital heart defect – an open ductus arteriosus, which usually closes after the birth of a child during the first days of life.
Tonight, a team of doctors from the Heart Institute performed the first heart transplant in the city of Odesa. The patient is a young 44-year-old man from the Mykolaiv region, who has been on the transplant waiting list for more than a year.
Acquaintance with colleagues, exchange of knowledge and experience, study of the latest techniques in cardiac surgery and cardiology, and even heart and lung transplantation on one of the internship days – all this is growth, acquisition of experience and knowledge that doctors will implement at home, in Ukraine, saving life of Ukrainians.
