From May 18 to 23, 2021, a team of doctors from the Heart Institute led by Borys Todurov shared their experience in Kyrgyzstan at the invitation of colleagues from the Research Institute of Heart Surgery and Organ Transplantation of the Ministry of Health in Bishkek. We are always happy to share our achievements and experience with other doctors.
A team of doctors of the Heart Institute implanted an Evolut R valve in an 83-year-old patient with critical aortic stenosis and a gradient on the valve of 120 mm Hg. This is the largest size of prosthesis that currently exists.
A hybrid surgery was performed at the Heart Institute on a patient with acute thoracic aortic dissection. The peculiarity of this pathology was that in this case the bleeding from a ruptured aorta had evolved.
The team of the Heart Institute translocated the left subclavian artery to the unaffected area of the aortic arch and implanted an endovascular endoprosthesis for the thoracic aorta.
Andriy Khokhlov and a team of doctors performed transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) at the Heart Institute. The complexity of the situation was that the elderly patient was 80 years old, also, the patient was diagnosed with COVID-19.
The conference was extremely rich and productive.
Over the past year, significant progress has been made in Ukrainian transplantology and one of the topical issues highlighted by the conference is the creation of a full-fledged, civilized transplant system.
A 38-year-old man had a heart transplant last night in Zaporizhia. Prof. Borys Todurov took part in the surgery with a team of doctors from the Heart Institute and colleagues from Zaporizhia. The operation lasted a total of about 7 hours.

The trip was very intense, rich and bright.
The whole team of the Heart Institute is excited – another heart transplant took place tonight, which was flawlessly performed by the team headed by Gavril Kovtun, Head of the Human Organ and Tissue Transplant Department of the Heart Institute
We thank everyone involved in the history of Ukrainian transplantology and wish more healthy hearts beat in the chests of Ukrainians this year.
The surgery was complicated. The mechanical heart was not sutured to the normal myocardium: the patient had a thinned and not sufficiently dense aneurysm, so first a tricuspid valve plastic surgery and resection of a giant postinfarction left ventricular aneurysm were performed, and then a mechanical heart was sutured to the remains of the aneurysm.
