This is the fifth heart transplant in Ukraine in the last 8 months and the second at the Lviv Ambulance Hospital.
The heart was received by a 45-year-old patient from Chernivtsi, whose own heart was so affected by pneumonia with complications (ejection fraction – 11 – critically low) that required immediate transplantation.
A 58-year-old patient with an acute myocardial infarction complicated by rupture of the interventricular septum of the heart was admitted to the Heart Institute, Kyiv.
For the first time, heart transplantation was performed at the Heart Institute. This was the fourth heart transplantation in Ukraine.
The operation was performed by Professor Borys Todurov with a team of doctors from the Heart Institute.

On July 6, 2020, for the first time in Ukraine at the Heart Institute of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the clinic specialists implanted a balloon-expandable prosthesis of the aortic valve to a patient with severe aortic stenosis. This type of prosthesis has not been available for implantation in Ukraine until now.
This is the third transplantation in Ukraine in six months. On July 3, 2020, the transplantation was performed by the team of the Heart Institute, Kyiv, headed by Director of the Institute Prof. Borys Todurov. Many thanks to Lviv colleagues led by Oleg Samchuk (Lviv Clinical Ambulance Hospital).
June 11, 2020, another patient was rescued with a mechanical heart at the Heart Institute. A 39-year-old patient from the “waiting list” Andriy Shkolny was in a very serious condition and could not wait for a transplant. Now he has a chance.
June 9, 2020, despite the ongoing pandemic, specialists of the children’s department of the Heart Institute of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine continue saving lives and fight for the health of children with congenital heart defects. The infant was admitted to the ward at the age of 12 days, weighing only 3.2 kg with a diagnosis of Hemitruncus Arteriosus.
On June 6, 2020, a surgery to remove acute thrombosis from the common iliac vein was performed at the Heart Institute of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. With this disease, the patient can very quickly be at risk of massive pulmonary embolism.
On May 21, 2020, the mini mechanical Heart Medtronic Heart Ware 3 was implanted at the Heart Institute of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. This model is being implanted in the clinic for the third time. For the Institute, this was a unique operation, because it did not involve proctors (the manufacturer’s representatives).
