Scientific-Practical Conference “Venous Thromboembolism: New Approaches to Diagnostics and Treatment”

On September 13, 2018, in the Kiev Heart Institute of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the first in the new academic year registered scientific-practical conference “Venous Thromboembolism: New Approaches to Diagnostics and Treatment” took place. The idea of the conference was to discuss current guidelines for the diagnostics and treatment of venous thrombosis, pulmonary emboli, and post-thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension.

Complex, Unique Reconstructive Cardiac Surgery on 13-year-old Boy with Marfan Syndrom

On August 30, 2018, at the Heart Institute, Kyiv, the world-renowned doctor of medical philosophy, professor of cardiac surgery Rimantas Benetis, together with Doctor of Medical Sciences Borys Todurov, conducted a complex surgery (the David procedure) on the reconstruction of the aortic root including correction of the valve’s cusps and replacement of a part of the aorta. The patient was a 13-year-old boy with a rare genetic condition, Marfan syndrome.

4-year Old Girl Travels from Palestine to Kyiv for Complex Cardiac Surgery

Masha Abu Rumaila is four and a half years old. She was born in Makeyevka, Donetsk region, but now lives in Palestine. At birth, she was diagnosed with a critical congenital heart disease, a functionally single ventricle. The first two heart surgeries were made by the cardiac surgeon Igor Mokrik in Donetsk in 2014. The third, final and most complicated Fontan procedure, was successfully conducted by Igor Mokrik at the Heart Institute, Kyiv, on August 8, 2018.

Endovascular Prosthetics of the Mitral Valve at the Heart Institute

The patient is a 62-year old man with a diagnosis – isolated severe mitral insufficiency. In the presence of concomitant pathology, an open operation was contraindicated. At the Heart Institute, the patient had an endovascular prosthetics of the mitral valve.

Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation on 84-Year-Old Patient

Recently, at the Heart Institute, a transfemoral (implantation) implantation of the last-generation prosthesis of the aortic valve was conducted on an 84-year-old woman having been diagnosed with critical aortic stenosis with apparent calcification of the openings of the aortic valve.

Replacement of ball aortic valve prosthesis after 29 years of work

On July 5, 2018, a surgery of aortic valve replacement was conducted on a 45-year-old woman by Professor Borys Todurov at the Heart Institute. At the age of 16 the patient was diagnosed with an infective endocarditis of the aortic valve and in 1989 she was successfully operated. At that time a ball prosthesis of the aortic valve was implanted which successfully worked for 29 years. The surgery was completed successfully.
