Heart Transplant for Yuri Goryachy

June, 9, 2021
Last night, on June 8, 2021, at the Heart Institute another transplant took place for our 60-year-old patient Yuriy Goryachy from the Vinnytsia region, otherwise, his life was in danger. 5 years ago Yuriy suffered a heart attack, stenting, and eventually implantation of a pacemaker.
The donor’s heart was extracted from a man with an extremely severe, incompatible stroke at the Kyiv Regional Clinical Hospital by a team from the Heart Institute led by Prof. Borys Todurov. We express our condolences to the family of the deceased and are very grateful for their permission to transplant a heart and two kidneys. By doing so they saved other people’s lives.

Our patient received a new heart and a new life. We are glad that transplantation in Ukraine is developing at such a pace, and we hope that we will have reasons to publish new cases often.
Special thanks go to the Kyiv Regional Clinical Hospital and the National Police for their help in transporting the donor’s heart.
The team of doctors of the Heart Institute was involved: Borys Todurov, Gavril Kovtun, Oleg Loskutov, Mykola Honcharenko, Andriy Patola, Sergii Sheludko, Maksym Taranov, Anatoliy Ivanyuk, Stepan Marunyak, Oleksandr Revenko, Marichka Petrishak, Tetyana Nazarchuk, Anna Melnyk.
