New Year of Transplants Started in Ukraine

February, 10, 2021

On February 10, 2021, Borys Todurov, together with the team of the Heart Institute and colleagues from the Lviv Ambulance Hospital, headed by Oleg Samchuk, performed the first heart transplant in Ukraine in 2021.

Vasily, a 22-year-old boy from Lviv region received a heart next day after his birthday. Vasily was born with a heart defect, but learned about that only three years ago when he contracted the flu with complications. Only a heart transplant could save his life.

Three more lives were saved that day: a 36-year-old woman from Lviv and a 34-year-old Yaroslav received kidneys. 48-year-old Halyna from Lviv region received the liver.

We thank everyone involved in the history of Ukrainian transplantology and wish more healthy hearts beat in the chests of Ukrainians this year.
