First in Ukraine Implantation of the Smallest, Least Invasive Pacemaker
On February 20, 2019, for the first time in Ukraine, at the Heart Institute the endovascular implantation of the world’s smallest pacemaker, Medtronic Micra was conducted.

Since the beginning of 2019, more than 300 surgeries have been performed on the basis of the Departments of Anesthesiology and Intensive Therapy and the Department of Cardiosurgery, X-ray Endovascular and Extracorporeal Technologies of the National Academy of Postgraduate Education (NMAPE) named after P. Shupyk of the Heart Institute. Among them, there are a large number of unique procedures with high surgical and anaesthetic risk.
On February 1, 2019, a masterclass of an international level under the leadership of Professor Kalangos (Greece) took place in the walls of the Heart Institute, Kiev.
On December 18, 2018, a significant event in the history of the Heart Institute of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine took place – 22 research fellows of the Institute elected the General Director of the clinic. Among the four candidates, the voters unanimously voted for the founder of the Institute – Professor Borys Todurov.
On December 12, 2018, at the Heart Institute, a press conference of the Institute’s specialists took place involving two patients with mechanical hearts implanted by the Institute’s team lead by the Director of the Institute, Professor Borys Todurov.
On November 30, 2018, the scientific and practical seminar “Myocardial infarction and heart failure. News of Cardiology in 2018 ” was held at the Heart Institute with the active participation of departments of functional diagnostics, cardiosurgery, X-ray and intravascular and extracorporeal technologies of the Shupyk National Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education ((NMAPE) and with the assistance of the departments of public health of the Kyiv City State Administration and Kyiv Regional State Administration.
On November 21, 2018, another procedure of the implantation of the mechanical heart took place at the Heart Institute. The implantation was carried out by a team of specialists under the lead of the Director of the Institute, Professor Borys Todurov. This is the fourth implantation of mechanical heart in Ukraine and the second one this year.
On October 12, 2018, at the Kiev Heart Institute, a third time in Ukraine, a patient with a diagnosis of dilated cardiomyopathy was implanted with a mechanical heart developed by the German company Berlin Heart.
On October 11, 2018, the Ambassador of the State of Kuwait, His Excellency Dr. Rashid Al-Advani, and the Director of the Heart Institute, Professor Borys Todurov solemnly signed a donation of medical equipment agreement from the State of Kuwait to the Heart Institute, specifically to the Children’s Intensive Care Unit.
On October 4, 2018, within the framework of the 27th International Medical Exhibition “PUBLIC HEALTH 2018”, the Conference “New Technologies in Cardiac Surgery” organized by the Heart Institute of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine was held in Kyiv.
