Scientific and practical seminar “Myocardial Infarction and Heart Failure. News of Cardiology in 2018” at the Heart Institute
On November 30, 2018, the scientific and practical seminar “Myocardial infarction and heart failure. News of Cardiology in 2018 ” was held at the Heart Institute with the active participation of departments of functional diagnostics, cardiosurgery, X-ray and intravascular and extracorporeal technologies of the Shupyk National Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education ((NMAPE) and with the assistance of the departments of public health of the Kyiv City State Administration and Kyiv Regional State Administration. The seminar was attended by about 200 doctor-cardiologists, therapists, cardiac surgeons, resuscitation, anesthetists, functional diagnostic physicians, students and interns of the Academy’s departments. At this annual seminar, the main outcomes of the passing year in the field of diagnosis and treatment of the most common cardiovascular diseases were summarized.
Director of the Heart Institute, Head of the department of cardiosurgery, X-ray diffraction and extracorporeal technologies, Professor Borys Todurov addressed the participants of the seminar with a welcoming speech. In his report, he talked about his own experience and the results of surgical treatment of acute myocardial infarction. Head of the department of angiography of the Heart Institute Andriy Khokhlov outlined the main provisions of the European guidelines for revascularization and paid special attention to the latest method of studying the fractional blood flow reserve in the coronary arteries. The report of the Head of the Department of Cardiology and Functional Diagnostics of the KhMAPE Professor Vira Tseluiko highlighted the aspects of comparing ischemic and hemorrhagic risks from the standpoint of choice and determination of the duration of dual antiplatelet therapy in acute coronary syndromes, and in the report of Head of the functional diagnostics department of the NMAPE Professor Oleg Zharinov the principles of treatment of post-infarction patients and the choice of their method of revascularization from the standpoint of modern recommendations were discussed. Associate Professor of the Department of Diabetes N. Zherdyova described the evolution of the management of patients with type 2 diabetes and high cardiovascular risk, while Associate Professor of the Department of internal medicine of the Bohomolets National Medical University E. Andreev told about the role of biomarkers in the diagnosis of heart diseases.
The second session was devoted to the problems of diagnosis and treatment of coronary heart disease and heart failure. Special attention was paid to the reports of professors M. Lutaya (the Strazhesko Institute of Cardiology) and O. Koval (Dnipropetrovsk Medical Academy), which detailed the main provisions of the European guidelines for the treatment of arterial hypertension in 2018 and substantiated existing approaches to correction of myocardial ischemia. The symposium with the participation of professors Vira Tseluiko and Oleg Zharinov presented new possibilities for the treatment of patients with heart failure using the sacubitril/valsartan based on the PARADIGM-HF study, the latest American and European recommendations.
A possibility of direct communication with the recognized leaders of the national cardiology, a lot of questions and interesting answers to them, a relaxed atmosphere, infinitely appreciative and involved audience – this is what will be remembered from the one of the major educational forum of 2018 at the Heart Institute.
